The Mandriva fork, Mageia, has just released their 1st Alpha iso of their Linux distro. As a long time Mandriva user and fan, I’m quite excited about this.

Mandriva 2010.2 is quite nice (well it’s just 2010.1 with some new artwork and bootsplash, maybe a KDE upgrade – although I tend to run the most up to date KDE available anyway). But Mageia offers a direct upgrade path from 2010.2 to their first release. Looking forward to running it in Virtual Box so I can compare to Mandriva 2011 when that gets released.

Oh yeah, tomorrow night, I should have ultimate sigh web chat available for testing. All two of you will use it once. According to stats, I have had no visitors for last couple of days, although today there were 4 today. 🙂

So I’ve fnially decided to put a stat tracker for this page. I already have logs of IP addresses hitting my webserver, but who can be bothered reading that when there are ready made stat services available. I expect that unique IPs regularly accessing this site to be less than 10.

Need to be rich. And Torres is gone. At least I still play him FM2011. He’s playing shit though and Liverpool are playing better now. Even though Stevie G (rap for me) was heart broken when Torres departed. Needed to be a pro footballer.

So I promised to write about the scam I actually was hoodwinked for 20 seconds. This one is fairly sophisticated.

I recently received a letter from Domain Name Registry saying that ultimatesigh.com was up for renewal at the end of the year and that I should send payment details in the included return envelope to ensure noone else gets it.

Wow

I thought,

a year really went fast.

I actually considered plonking money into the envelope for a second.  Then I had a good look at the price.  It was $45 to renew for one year.

WTF

I thought. I had registered with My Domain for $10 and I thought the renewal was just another 10.  For a split second I thought the letter was from My Domain.  Then I realised the name was different and return address was in Aust.  Turns out the company is called MelbourneIT and apparently they must trawl through domain registers looking for Aust domain owners.  They then send an official looking letter asking for a fairly large sum to shift the registry to them and to re-register your domain through them.  Their date for ultimatesigh’s expiry is like 4 months early too, probably to scare you even more.  I think quite a few unwitting domain owners may fall for this trick. Sneaky but profitable business they’ve got.  🙁

So in the end sigh is still here.

More sighs to come be posted because I have a couple: one about Torres and another about a scam I avoided.

This sigh is about a conference call meeting with the US office of an IT vendor. So they scheduled it for 830am today. Which meant I had to get up super early to get in the office around 8am. Then I get an email to say “oh no, we’ve delayed it till 9am.” Sigh!

Can’t take this anymore. Lost sleep.
